They then travelled to Grimsby for the Independent Schools North of England Tournament. They managed to book themselves a place at the National 5-aside Soccer Championships with an impressive display. Beech House were placed in a strong group, but got off to a solid start with a 1-0 victory against St Martin’s, thanks to a cool finish by Jacob Hill. Beech House dominated the match throughout and should have scored many more. However, they were brought down to earth with a crash in their next game with their only defeat of the group stage, losing 4-0 to a strong looking Argyle House team. Beech House failed to get their passing working and sloppy mistakes cost them this game. The boys then bounced back well with a solid 2-0 win over Prenton Prep from the Wirral, once again thanks to two goals from Jacob Hill. The team gained great confidence from this win and turned on the style against the hosts, St James of Grimsby, running out 3-0 winners. Jacob Dench and James Hart were on the score sheet. These results meant Beech House qualified for the semi-finals. Beech House were drawn against Hull Collegiate. This was a very tough and physical game that included the goal of the tournament, a 15 yard, top corner screamer from Jacob Hill. Despite this, Beech House unluckily lost 4-1, not a fair reflection of the game. This result meant that Beech House had to beat Firwood Manor in the 3rd/4th play off in order to win a medal. This local derby between Rochdale and Oldham was an excellent football match with many chances for both teams, but thanks to the classy finishing of Jacob Hill, Beech House won 2-0. This brought his total to 7 for the tournament. The result also meant that Beech House had qualified for the National Finals to represent the North of England. The five boys played out of their skins during this tournament. The team was George Preston, Luke Shaw, Jacob Dench, James Hart and Jacob Hill. Despite Jacob Hill maintaining his awesome form, the man of the tournament was Luke Shaw because of his tireless defending and attacking. Good luck to the lads for the National Finals.
