Even before we made our way into the venue, the photographic record was enough to fill a whole shelf of albums on the shelves in Mrs. Nichols’ room. The girls looked absolutely stunning in their dresses and made the most of the fact that Mrs. White was not going to whip out her makeup removing wipes! No, seriously, girls, you had all gone to a lot of trouble, and this made it all more difficult when it came to choosing the Prom Queen. For once all the boys had their ties correctly fastened! They too looked very much young gentlemen, rather than the ‘old boys’ they were about to become. These events are often started with pupils arriving in outrageous forms of transport, but when a group ‘rolled up’ in a vintage Rolls Royce we were very impressed.
During our three course meal we were invited to vote for our Queen and King of the Prom. Mr. Bauer was asked to count the votes as we hoped he, as a Maths teacher, would be able to add up all the voting slips. The two winners, Lauren Hamilton and George Salt, were given their crowns by Mrs. White, after which Mrs. White gave a speech, using the idea of ‘A Journey’ as her theme. Some of the group started their ‘journey’ with us many years ago when they were in the prep. We have been joined by others along the way and had our ups and downs. Hopefully during their time at the school they have picked up enough skills and knowledge to be able to continue with this journey on their own. (There was an amusing reference to a school trip in but I won’t embarrass anyone in print!) Finally Mrs. White was invited to cut the cake which was in the form of a school shirt with the school tie. This was then cut up and shared out. The party then dispersed and pupils headed out to continue their celebrations elsewhere.
Once again, a big thank you to the pupils for organising the event and to the staff who attended. We hopefully will see everyone on the day of the results (Tuesday 24th August in case you have forgotten) and really celebrate our successes.
